Unit 5 Close Reads

Today we spent the day working on and discussing the close reads on pages 509 and 511. At the end of the period some students started on pages 512 and 513, which should be finished for HW.

Monday & Tuesday

 Monday students had some time to work on their OMM Essay Revision assignment (due 1/29) and their OMM Compare and Contrast Essay (due 1/30).
Tuesday began the day with a reflection of first semester grades and finished the day with some notes for Unit 5.

Starting the Film

Today we finished and collected the poetry work (some sample frames for the compare contrast paragraph--#8--are below). The we started the film version of Of Mice and Men, taking notes on how it is similar to and different from the novel.

Compare/Contrast Paragraphs

Today, after returning our Of Mice and Men books, we spent the rest of the short period compare and contrasting the three poems we read last week (essentially question #7 on page 471 from Friday). The rest of the period was spent on question #8, which students should answer in at least one long, complete paragraph that compares and contrasts all three poems. Handouts were given in class to help with this. We will finish these paragraphs tomorrow.

Students handed in revised essays at the start of the period, and we spent the rest of the day on one more poem (see below) and question #7 from page 471.

Take One

Today we attempted to hand in the literary analysis essays, but most students needed to take them home and do a bit more careful editing. Students spent most of the period registering for classes in the Navi Lab.
