- ANNOTATE the poem. On a copy of the poem itself, mark features that stand out (rhyme, stanzas, type of poem, alliteration, consonance, enjambment, syllables, metaphor, simile, personification, hyperbole, etc.), note difficult words or lines, indicate questions or comments, etc.
- PARAPHRASE the poem in simple, everyday sentences. Look up words if needed.
- SUMMARIZE the poem in a sentence or two.
- Explain the TONE of the poem in a sentence or two. Use our list of tone words if they help.
- Explain the THEME of the poem in a sentence or two.
- Write an ANALYTICAL PARAGRAPH about how one aspect of the poem affects either the theme or the tone. Your paragraph should begin with a sentence that clearly states the aspect and the effect. Support your point with quotations from the poem itself.
If all goes well, this will feature a run down of class activities and assignments. It should be updated by roughly 4:00pm daily.

Revision Begins
Today we worked through some revision activities, using the slides below and the textbook pages indicated.
Final draft essays (typed in MLA format with a works cited page) are due Friday. I will also be collecting graphic organizers and revised rough drafts (with stamps).

Wrapping Up the Rough Draft
Today we reviewed paraphrase and citation in the warm-up, reviewed body paragraphs and conclusions, and students had the opportunity to write for much of the day. They should finish their body paragraghs and write their conclusions over the weekend if they didn't finish in class today.
