Today we had a bit of fun with the chapter, "And Some More."

A Couple of Vignettes

"Those Who Don't," Etc.

Today we did a bit more reading and writing. We practiced Says/Means/Matters and I collected one at the end of class. 6th period also finally got the homework.

Letters Returned & "Marin"

Today students got their intro letters back and did a bit of reflection in their notebooks. Period four has homework (below). I didn't get to assign it in period six, but they will get it tomorrow and could certainly do it tonight to get ahead.

A Bit of a Split

We began the day with "Gil's Furniture Bought and Sold" and continued with "Meme Ortiz." In first and second periods, students then copied down tonight's homework, which is due tomorrow. In fourth and sixth, students do not have homework and read "Louie, His Cousin, and His Other Cousin" and handed in their writer's notebooks instead.

"Laughter" and "Gil's..."

After reviewing the expectations for Writer's Notebooks, we did a bit of SMM practice today and the read "Laughter" and wrote about "Gil's Furniture Bought and Sold."
Notebooks were collected in periods 1 and 2. Periods 4 and 6 will submit notebooks tomorrow.

HW Review and "Cathy Queen of Cats"

After reviewing and sharing the homework, we read "Cathy Queen of Cats" and talked about the questions below. We also had a look at this interesting census map of Chicago.

Letter Revision

After finishing the first draft of their letters, students got to work on revision, using the revision checklist at Google Classroom. Students also created TurnItIn accounts and used the e-Rater comments to revise as well. Tomorrow we will be in the computer lab for final revisions and printing.

Letter Drafting

Today, after getting new seats, students had the period to draft their letters at Google Classroom. Directions are in this slideshow (see slide 8). Absent students should check their EHS email as they were sent an invitation to our class.
