Today, after some costume distraction, we finished the pamphlet notes from Friday and students presented their findings in small groups. Absent students should get the presentation notes from a friend.

After doing a quick annotation and summary of the "Coping with Cliques" notes from yesterday, we did about half of the theme/symbol presentations (from Google Classroom). We wrapped up the period setting up some notes for tomorrow's article.

Finishing Speak

Today, after a quick quiz on Reading 8, we finished Speak (in all but period 3). Tomorrow we'll wrap up dialectical journals for Reading #9.

Metaphor Analysis

After doing a bit of metaphor analysis in the warm up, we read some more of Reading 8 and broke down the central extended metaphor in "Real Spring" (pp. 165-168). Students should finish Reading 8 (pp. 162-184) and do the DJ for HW.

Reading #7 Continued

Today students had time to work on Reading 7 (pp. 141-162) while we conferenced with individual students about a small piece of analytical writing. Students should finish the reading and dialectical journal (major events and 2 SMMs) for homework if necessary.

After the analysis practice below and a rousing discussion of the concept of consent as it applies to the end of the 3rd marking period in Speak, we read the first part of reading 7 aloud (pp. 141-150).

Reading #5

We opened by looking a few quotation analysis examples, read a bit more of Reading #5, and then students had some time to write on their own. They should have Reading #5 (through p. 116) finished for tomorrow's class with at least two SMMs (analyzed quotations).

Tuesday we reviewed reading #4, taking some notes and adding to the DJs.
On Wednesday, students had a chance to write their summaries of the second marking period and then we started reading #5 together.
