On to Persuasion
We began the day by reviewing claim and support in the warm-up. After that, we moved on to the notes on page 596. Students should do the close reading questions on 597 for homework (add them to the work we did with the article on page 595).

Claim & Support, Cont.
Today we practiced analyzing claim and support with a couple short articles on cyberbullying. After that, and a few more examples, we went over the homework from last night, especially number 4, which students had a chance to work on in class.

Unit 6
Today we got started with Unit 6, taking the notes from page 594, and then working with the text on page 595. Students read the text, paraphrasing the claim and summarizing the author's reasons and evidence in a graphic organizer like the one on page 594. They should finish this, along with Close Read #4, for homework.

After a quick vocab review in the warm-up, we spent the rest of the period reading the story. Students added margin question D to their papers and should complete questions 4, 6, and 7 (p. 554) for homework.

Paraphrase and Prereading
After a bit more paraphrase practice, I collected the Unit 5 CRs and handed back OMM essay revisions/reflections. Many of these were incomplete and must be resubmitted. We wrapped up the period with a look at the vocabulary on page 547.

More Paraphrase Practice
Today we reviewed paraphrase and practice a bit, then reviewed our website evaluation and MLA sheet. Students had the last part of the period to finish the notes and summary on the CDC nutrition article we worked with on Friday.
