The Works Cited & Self-Evaluation

Today we spent most of the period on the works cited, and a few students got to the self evaluation at the end of the period. Typed drafts are due for revision on Monday.

The Conclusion

Today, after a quick review of citation, we looked at a sample conclusion and students had the period to write. Complete first drafts should be ready for class tomorrow.

Countering the Opposition

Today we looked at examples of the opposition paragraph, took a few notes, and had writing time. By tomorrow, students should be done with the body of their persuasive essay.

After a quick warm-up reviewing bias, we finished up “How Private is Your Private Life,” doing margin questions B through E (only B and E in writing, but if you weren’t here, you should do them all). Then we got started on “The Pricay Debate.” We’ll finish that Monday.

Today we spent much of the period talking about the modern conception of privacy and if we can really have privacy in our ever-connected, digital world. After that, we reviewed the concepts of fact and opinion, with students taking notes and practicing.

Claim & Support Practice: The Dream Today

Today we checked the homework, discussed it, and then students handed in all three parts of the MLK analysis. After that, we turned our focus to King's dream in our modern context, with students taking a stand and supporting their opinion in a graphic organizer. They should finish this for HW if necessary.

We began the day with the vocabulary for MLK's "I Have a Dream" from page 601 in the textbook. Next, we reviewed the homework, which was collected, and then we listened to the first part of the speech while following along in our textbooks.
