Wrapping Up the Unit 6 Notes

Today we finished the notes on page 598 and students had some time to get started on the homework, the close reads on pages 598 and 599.

Back to Unit 6

Today we spent the period reviewing the terms from the Unit 6 notes, focusing primarily on the close reading questions on 595 and 597. Students should be do with these by tomorrow's class.

Unit 6: The Appeals

Today we went through the appeals on page 596 (and added them to the Academic Terms notes), and students got started on the close reads on page 597. Have a good, safe break!

Unit 6

Today we added the selection vocabulary from page 601 to the "Selection Vocabulary" section in the binder. After that we started the Unit 6 notes on page 594. Students should complete the Close Read Questions on page 595 for homework.

Today we used the time to do one of three things: 1)Finish the Unit 5 assessment, 2) Make up missing or incomplete assignments, or 3) Do an extra credit assignment in preparation for Unit 6.

Mango Says Goodbye...

Today we started with a look at the final two vignettes from "The House on Mango Street," "My Name" and "Mango Says Goodbye Sometimes." Students did margin questions A through E in class and got started on the homework: #s 3 through 8 on page 575.

Nouns & Questions

We began the day with a quick review of concrete and abstract nouns and spent the rest of the period finishing the questions for "The Open Window" (margins A-D, p. 566 1-4, 6 & 7). These should be finished for homework if necessary.

Today did a bit more work with the vocabulary in warm ups (p. 555, Vocab. in Writing), went over the homework (which was collected), and spent the last few moments on concrete vs abstract nouns.

Today we started by doing the Vocabulary in Practice activity (p. 555, 1-6) in the warrm-ups. After that we finished "The Lost Boys" and students did margin questions A through F and questions 4 and 7 (on page 554). They should finish for HW.

We began the day with the vocabulary on page 547, and then, after some prereading work, read nearly all of the article.

Today, after a review of major concepts from the notes, I collected the close reading HW and we started the prereading for "The Lost Boys" (p. 546).
